FSG Completes Electrical Systems for Oklo's Groves Reactor

On August 5, 2026, the Groves Isotope Test Reactor in Lockhart, Texas, achieved first criticality, marking a milestone as the fifth reactor under the U.S. Department of Energy’s pilot program to reach a controlled chain reaction and the first to do so on private land.

Facility Solutions Group managed the electrical, instrumentation, and control systems for the project, joining the development team in April 2026. Working alongside general contractor Century Construction, the firm handled the testing and verification of essential reactor systems without the benefit of established industry precedents for such advanced fission technology.

Kris Price, construction manager at FSG, noted that the project required deep technical trust between the partners to navigate the complexities of a first-of-a-kind deployment. The successful activation of the Groves site provides a blueprint for domestic commercial isotope production, demonstrating that high-stakes nuclear infrastructure can be delivered on accelerated timelines. This achievement underscores the collaborative integration between Oklo, Century Construction, and the engineering teams tasked with scaling clean fission power.
