Schaumburg-based DQS Inc. has become one of the first certification bodies to receive ANAB accreditation for the ISO 14001:2026 environmental management standard. This certification empowers the firm to guide North American organizations through the transition to the updated framework, which emphasizes climate change, biodiversity, and governance.

The ISO 14001:2026 standard, released this past April, marks the first comprehensive revision of the environmental benchmark in over ten years. As more than 670,000 organizations currently hold the previous certification, the pressure is mounting to align existing systems with the new requirements. The updated edition mandates a sharper focus on leadership and the integration of environmental stewardship across entire value chains.

Dina Tarantino, Director of Accreditations at DQS, noted that the firm has spent months preparing to translate these rigorous requirements into a consistent audit process. To support the shift, Candace Orbaugh, Director of EHS & Energy Programs, is advising clients to begin gap analyses immediately. Key areas for review include internal audit planning, risk management, and operational change controls. DQS recently hosted a webinar to detail these transition steps, providing a roadmap for companies to evaluate whether their current systems still meet evolving stakeholder expectations and environmental conditions.
