Homeowners should prioritize cleaning the threshold area to remove road salt, grit, and decaying leaves, which act as moisture traps. Wiping the bottom gasket with a damp cloth and applying a silicone spray can maintain the rubber’s flexibility and prevent it from sticking to the floor. During these inspections, residents ought to check for signs of dry rot or cracks, as brittle rubber no longer provides an effective barrier against the elements.
