FaceTec Expands Biometric Patent Portfolio to 50 Issued Patents

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued a new patent to FaceTec, marking the company’s 50th granted intellectual property right. This latest addition, covering server nodes for autonomous authentication, bolsters a defensive strategy that includes another 50 pending applications aimed at securing the firm's 3D liveness detection technology.

FaceTec Expands Biometric Patent Portfolio to 50 Issued Patents

The company’s software, which has processed over 4 billion 3D liveness checks globally in the past year, currently faces a competitive landscape where legal durability is paramount. CEO Kevin Alan Tussy emphasized that the firm prioritizes in-house innovation over the acquisition of legacy patent portfolios, focusing on R&D to widen its technology moat against potential threats.

This growth in intellectual property arrives alongside a decisive legal victory for the Nevada-based firm. The U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board recently upheld the validity of all challenged claims in four separate proceedings brought by Jumio Corporation. By successfully defending its core 3D liveness patents, FaceTec has effectively signaled that its proprietary methods for remote identity verification are prepared to withstand aggressive legal scrutiny in an increasingly litigious biometrics market.
