The strategy relies on a distinct technical pivot. Unlike the high-end chips utilizing the latest Oryon CPU cores, the Snapdragon C series utilizes older Kryo cores, a design choice previously seen in mobile devices and Chromebooks. Mandar Deshpande, Qualcomm’s senior director of product management, promises that these machines will still provide a responsive experience suitable for streaming, multitasking, and video calls without the thermal noise common in budget hardware.
Qualcomm targets $300 price point for new Snapdragon C laptops
Qualcomm is attempting to redefine the budget laptop market by introducing the Snapdragon C platform, a move designed to drop entry-level Windows machine prices to $300. While previous attempts to bring Arm-based performance to lower price brackets stalled at $600, the company claims this new architecture will bridge the gap.
Hardware compromises remain unavoidable to hit the aggressive price target. The platform includes an NPU for local AI tasks, yet these devices will not meet the stringent requirements for Microsoft’s full Copilot Plus PC suite. Despite these limitations, partners including Acer, HP, and Lenovo are preparing to bring these units to market. The Acer Aspire Go 15 AG15-Q31P has already been confirmed as the first machine to debut under this new initiative.
