The multi-year partnership aims to lower the barrier for organizations looking to adopt quantum-assisted workflows. By hosting the Helios system—a 98-qubit trapped-ion processor—within OCI, the companies plan to offer a managed service that allows developers to integrate quantum operations into existing cloud environments without the burden of maintaining specialized on-site hardware.
Helios, which launched commercially in late 2025, is marketed for its high fidelity, boasting an average two-qubit gate performance of 99.921%. Beyond processing power, the collaboration highlights energy efficiency as a key driver. Quantinuum reports that a single Helios unit consumes approximately 60 kW, a fraction of the power required by traditional supercomputers, making it a sustainable complement for computationally intensive research in fields like drug discovery, financial modeling, and materials science.
