Construction on the facility is scheduled to begin in late 2026, with the plant expected to reach full capacity by 2028. This move follows a company-wide commitment by Southwire to dedicate over two billion dollars toward modernizing its production footprint. The Starkville campus, which Southwire acquired in 1989 after its original opening by Phelps-Dodge in 1979, previously underwent a significant expansion in 2010 to include an onsite distribution center.

A $256 million investment will add 380,000 square feet to Southwire’s Starkville, Mississippi, manufacturing plant, marking the largest economic development project in the city's history. The expansion is slated to create 128 new jobs, reinforcing the company’s long-term strategy to modernize its North American operations and meet rising electrification demand.
Company leadership, including President and CEO Ganesh Ramaswamy, stated that the investment reflects confidence in the local workforce and the strategic importance of the Starkville site. State officials highlighted the project as evidence of Mississippi’s competitive manufacturing climate. The upgrade aims to improve safety and operational efficiency, better positioning Southwire to handle the increasing requirements of data centers and broader market growth across North America.
