Microsoft Edge phases out Manifest V2 extensions

The company reports that only 58 extensions on the Edge Add-On Store currently rely on the outdated architecture, with a mere three lacking a direct MV3 equivalent. To bridge the gap, Microsoft is pushing users toward lighter alternatives such as uBlock Origin Lite. For those unwilling to adapt, browsers like Opera and Firefox remain viable havens, as they continue to maintain support for legacy extensions.

Beginning this month, the deprecation process triggers a gradual rollout across Canary, Dev, and Beta channels before hitting the Stable version. While consumer users are slated for a full transition by the end of 2026, enterprise environments have been granted a reprieve until early 2027. Users affected by the automatic shutdowns will receive advance notifications directing them toward updated, compatible versions of their tools.
