Seaspan Breaks Into China’s Panda Bond Market With 1.5 Billion RMB Issue

The offering, finalized on July 15, 2026, carries a coupon rate of 2.50% per annum. Investor demand proved robust, with the book oversubscribed by 2.3 times, drawing interest from both onshore Chinese entities and international participants. This milestone creates a fresh funding channel for the company, moving away from traditional financing to access more cost-efficient, unsecured debt.

Andreas Brauch, Chief Financial Officer at Seaspan, noted that the successful issuance reflects investor trust in the company’s credit quality and long-term growth trajectory. The firm, which manages a fleet of 247 vessels with a total capacity of 2.5 million TEU, intends to leverage this liquidity to modernize its fleet and support ongoing operations. This entry into the Chinese capital market deepens Seaspan’s existing footprint in the region, where it already maintains extensive partnerships in shipbuilding, chartering, and maritime services.
