HSBC Expands Debt Buyback Program to $6.75 Billion

HSBC Holdings plc has significantly increased the scope of its ongoing debt tender offers, raising the aggregate purchase price limit from $5 billion to $6.75 billion. The bank is aggressively managing its outstanding debt portfolio, including a targeted expansion in the repurchase of its May 2028 notes.

The revised tender offer, announced August 6, 2026, includes a specific increase to the May 2028 Notes sub-cap, which now stands at $1 billion, up from the previously stated $750 million. These moves follow the bank's successful pricing of new senior unsecured notes on August 5, 2026, which provides the liquidity required to fund the buybacks.

The tender process covers four distinct series of senior unsecured notes due in 2028. HSBC will prioritize the acceptance of these notes based on their established priority levels, provided they are tendered before the 5:00 p.m. New York City time deadline on August 12, 2026. Settlement is expected to occur on August 17, 2026. Holders who have already participated in the offer do not need to re-submit their tenders to qualify for the adjusted terms.
