The appointment arrives as CEB undergoes a modernization phase, moving to integrate AI-driven tools into its long-standing research offerings. CEO Kelly Lake cited James’s decades of experience as a critical asset for translating recent product investments into market expansion. James, a lawyer by training, joins the firm following a tenure leading sales for Thomson Reuters' tax and accounting division and a stint as CEO of AccessData.
CEB Taps Industry Veteran Keith James to Spearhead California Growth
After two and a half decades navigating the legal tech landscape at giants like LexisNexis and Thomson Reuters, Keith James is moving to Oakland. Starting August 3, James steps into the role of head of sales and renewals at CEB, tasked with scaling the provider’s footprint in the California legal market.

CEB has spent the last year and a half aggressively broadening its portfolio. This includes the acquisition of Attorney's BriefCase, which effectively doubled the company’s reach in the state’s family law sector, and the launch of AI-enabled research platforms like CEB Insight. James is expected to leverage his background in digital forensics and compliance to help California firms navigate an increasingly complex, technology-reliant legal environment.
