Kinetic Technologies Debuts KTS1630 eFuse for Compact Power Protection

San Jose-based Kinetic Technologies has unveiled the KTS1630, a 5A eFuse engineered to safeguard 5V and 12V power rails in consumer and industrial hardware. The device integrates a 31mΩ MOSFET into a 3mm by 3mm package, offering programmable current limits and rapid fault response for space-constrained electronic systems.

Modern electronic architectures face increasing pressure from rising power densities and shrinking footprints. The KTS1630 addresses these constraints by combining programmable current limiting—ranging from 1A to 5A—with a 100ns typical overcurrent response time. This speed allows the chip to isolate short circuits and thermal events before they compromise downstream components, while its programmable output slew rate mitigates the risks associated with inrush current, such as voltage droop and connector stress.

Erik Ogren, Senior Director of Marketing at Kinetic Technologies, noted that the design aims to reduce complexity and board area without sacrificing reliability. To accommodate diverse system requirements, the company provides two fault-management versions: the KTS1630A, which features automatic restart capabilities, and the KTS1630B, which utilizes a latched-off mechanism for manual reset scenarios. The device also supports external reverse-blocking MOSFETs, a critical feature for systems managing multiple power sources or shared rails. These components are currently available for sampling and evaluation in consumer electronics, solid-state drives, and industrial control equipment.
