Nearly 1,200 attendees gathered in Alexandria this week as the American Council of the Blind wrapped up its 2026 Conference and Convention. Marking the organization’s 65th anniversary, the event served as a hub for discussing digital accessibility, assistive technology, and the future of legislative priorities for the blind community.
Keynote speaker and musician Precious Perez anchored the annual banquet, bridging the gap between personal narrative and systemic advocacy through her performance and testimony. Executive Director Scott Thornhill noted that the convention functions as a catalyst for partnerships, turning individual experiences into collective momentum. Supported by corporate sponsors including Microsoft, Vanda Pharmaceuticals, and Waymo, the organization now turns its attention to the next cycle of programming. The council confirmed that its 2027 gathering is scheduled for July 23–30 in Jacksonville, Florida.
