A new federal push spearheaded by President Donald Trump aims to bridge the gap between military service and the civilian workforce. The Freedom Haulers initiative coordinates four U.S. departments to streamline commercial driver licensing for veterans, specifically targeting the trucking industry to bolster domestic supply chains.
Scott Greenblatt, CEO of Pinehurst-based Veterans Guardian and a retired Army lieutenant colonel, views the initiative as a bridge for veterans seeking post-service employment. He emphasizes that a disability rating, often a hurdle in recruitment, does not define a candidate's professional capabilities. Greenblatt urges employers to look past these ratings, noting that his own firm—which holds the Department of Labor’s Platinum HIRE Vets Medallion Award—relies on a workforce where over 75 percent are veterans or military spouses. By integrating these service members into the logistics sector, the administration hopes to solve two problems at once: veteran unemployment and the ongoing demand for qualified drivers.
