Spotify Launches AI-Driven Running Mode for Targeted Workouts

Spotify is rolling out a new Running Mode, an AI-powered tool designed to sync music playlists with specific workout tempos. By letting users define their preferred beats per minute and training style, the feature aims to streamline the fitness experience for Premium subscribers in seven select countries.

The interface functions similarly to the standard mobile app but integrates specialized fitness metrics and customization tools. Users can choose from 25 curated presets, tailoring selections by genre, duration, and intensity levels such as interval, steady, or pyramid training. Optional audio prompts in English provide motivation and performance cues without interrupting the music flow.

Running Mode follows the company's previous experimentation with fitness technology, including the 2015 Spotify Running feature that automatically detected cadence through phone sensors. Unlike its predecessor, this iteration requires users to input their workout parameters manually before beginning a session. The tool resides within the Fitness hub and is currently available on iOS for users in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden.
