Traditional network firewalls were designed for standard traffic, leaving a blind spot for the prompts, agent interactions, and model calls that now define modern enterprise operations. Check Point’s new AI Network Firewall, part of its broader AI Defense Plane, aims to close this gap by enabling real-time visibility into AI usage. According to Nataly Kremer, Chief Product Officer at Check Point, the objective is to allow security teams to govern AI adoption at the same point where network traffic already converges.
Check Point Integrates AI Security Directly Into Existing Firewalls
Check Point Software Technologies is upgrading its R82.20 firewall software to include native AI protection, allowing organizations to secure generative AI traffic without deploying additional infrastructure. The update creates an AI-aware barrier across physical and virtual firewalls, addressing the growing risks posed by autonomous agents and sensitive data leakage.

The urgency for such controls is backed by data from the 2026 AI Security Report, which indicates that nearly 90% of organizations face high-risk AI interactions monthly. Furthermore, the frequency of prompts containing sensitive corporate data has reached one in every 25 interactions. By integrating these capabilities directly into existing firewalls, Check Point avoids the complexity of adding siloed security tools. The system provides automated protection across three key domains: monitoring employee AI applications, securing Model Context Protocol (MCP) communications, and blocking malicious prompt injections in real time.
