The partnership centers on the deployment of the Ember Cube 2, a reusable shipping solution capable of maintaining a stable 2°C to 8°C environment for over 72 hours. By incorporating real-time location tracking and shipment visibility, the companies intend to address the growing demand for secure transport of biopharmaceuticals and vaccines. Alfresa will evaluate the technology for its specialty home-delivery service, which bridges the gap between medical institutions and patient households.
Ember LifeSciences and Alfresa Partner to Modernize Japan's Cold Chain
Alfresa Corporation, Japan's largest pharmaceutical wholesaler, has secured exclusive local distribution rights for Ember LifeSciences' cold chain technology. The strategic alliance, bolstered by a Series A investment from Alfresa, aims to integrate Ember’s precision temperature-controlled shipping containers into Japan’s medical supply network, specifically targeting home-care delivery services.

Ember founder and CEO Clay Alexander noted that the deal marks a significant step in the company's international expansion, following previous backing from investors including Amgen and Cardinal Health. Yusuke Fukujin, president of Alfresa, emphasized that the collaboration aligns with the company’s broader strategy of investing in next-generation logistics to handle increasingly sensitive medical products. With Alfresa reporting ¥3.1 trillion in revenue for fiscal year 2026, the alliance provides Ember with a powerful infrastructure partner to scale its operations across the Japanese healthcare sector.
