Logitech to Segment Mouse Production Ahead of EU Battery Mandates
When European regulators begin enforcing mandatory battery replaceability for electronics in February 2027, Logitech will not adopt a global standard. Instead, the company plans to bifurcate its hardware manufacturing, shipping specialized, repairable wireless mice to the European market while maintaining its current sealed designs for the rest of the world.
To comply with upcoming European directives, Logitech will shift to rigid hard-pack batteries for its regional inventory. These casings are designed to prevent the accidental punctures that can lead to lithium-ion fires. While this shift ensures safety for European users—who will also receive access to certified replacement parts—Logitech maintains that the added weight and design complexity of hard-pack cells render them inferior for the global market, where consumer demand for repairability remains secondary to device portability and mass.
