Apple clarifies device status for missed lease payments
Apple has officially dismissed concerns regarding its new device Upgrade program, confirming that hardware functionality will remain entirely unaffected by missed monthly payments. The company clarified that it has no intention of deploying a restricted mode to lock users out of their applications should they fall behind on financial obligations.
The Upgrade program, launched in partnership with the buy now, pay later service Klarna, allows users to lease iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches for a flat monthly fee. While the hardware remains fully operational regardless of payment status, Klarna maintains clear consequences for non-payment. According to Klarna spokesperson Clare Nordstrom, the company will terminate the lease agreement if a customer misses three consecutive payments, at which point the user becomes responsible for the full outstanding balance.
