The campaign targets a critical shortfall in medical science: the systemic lack of research into women’s unique aging processes. Despite women generally living longer than men, they disproportionately experience extended periods of poor health. Dr. Wright argues that this is not a biological inevitability but a consequence of underfunded infrastructure, specifically regarding the role of the ovary in systemic health. The initiative aims to bridge this gap by creating the Vonda Wright Women's Health Foundation, which will provide catalytic funding for studies on everything from the Musculoskeletal Syndrome of Menopause to female sexual health.
Dr. Vonda Wright Launches $79 Million Campaign to Decode Women's Aging
Seventy-nine miles of grueling mountain terrain will serve as the engine for a new $79 million research initiative. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Vonda Wright and the Buck Institute for Research on Aging are launching the Move the Mountain campaign to establish a foundation dedicated to mapping the biological mysteries of women’s longevity.

Dr. Wright will begin her physical challenge on September 16, 2026, at the 29029 Trails Race in Park City, Utah, followed by an Everesting event in 2027. Each of the 79 miles represents $1 million in fundraising goals. According to Dr. Eric Verdin, CEO of the Buck, the partnership is designed to anchor public advocacy to high-level scientific infrastructure. By focusing on high-impact pilot projects that struggle to secure traditional grants, the foundation intends to generate the preliminary data necessary to attract large-scale, long-term investment. Beyond the athletic endeavor, the campaign invites donors to participate at various levels, ranging from individual contributions to a $79 million Mountain Builder investment intended to secure the organization’s future.
