Sands Shopping Carnival Sets Attendance Record in Macao

Nearly 160,000 visitors packed The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo over four days, marking a record-high turnout for the annual Sands Shopping Carnival. The seventh edition of the event, which concluded July 26, solidified its status as the city's largest sales platform for local small and medium-sized enterprises.

The 2026 edition featured over 580 booths organized into eight themed zones, ranging from gourmet food courts to cultural showcases. This year’s expansion introduced a new Sports Experience Zone, where attendees participated in pickleball and basketball challenges, alongside an influx of creative brands from across the Greater Bay Area. Since its inception in 2020, the carnival has drawn a cumulative 800,000 visits, providing a vital economic boost while supporting the local government’s tourism-plus policy.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., noted that the event has evolved from an SME-focused initiative into a cornerstone of Macao’s consumption calendar. Beyond commerce, the carnival emphasized social responsibility by hosting 20 local NGOs, allowing participants to showcase handmade goods and gain professional experience. The event was further bolstered by competitive highlights, including the Greater Bay Area Karaoke King Singing Competition, which drew 150 performers, and family-oriented activities like the Little Master Chef Workshop.
