Cofide shifts this paradigm by assigning each agent a unique, short-lived, and standards-based identity that limits authority to specific, verified outcomes. By bringing this technology into the Trust Control Plane, Keyfactor intends to provide security teams with a unified system to govern non-human identities at the same scale previously reserved for human users.
Keyfactor Moves to Secure AI Agents Through Acquisition of Cofide
As autonomous AI agents proliferate within enterprise environments, Keyfactor has announced its intent to acquire UK-based identity platform Cofide. The deal aims to integrate Cofide’s workload-specific security into Keyfactor’s Trust Control Plane, replacing static credentials with short-lived, verified identities for every machine and software actor.

Jordan Rackie, CEO of Keyfactor, noted that the move is a response to the rapid rise of autonomous digital actors that require a more robust trust infrastructure. Matthew Bates, founder and CEO of Cofide, stated that joining forces allows his team to accelerate the deployment of their open-standards identity layer, which utilizes protocols like SPIFFE, OAuth, and OIDC. The acquisition, which takes effect immediately, positions the combined company to address the growing security gap in hybrid and multi-cloud environments, where the number of machine identities already far exceeds the number of human employees.
