AIKO, a solar manufacturer based in Yiwu, China, is positioning its All Back Contact (ABC) modules as a solution to these rising thermal risks. The modules recently secured the first "PV Module Anti-Ignition Hazard" certification from TÜV Rheinland. During testing, the ABC units maintained hot spot temperatures more than 35% lower than traditional counterparts, keeping internal heat below 100°C even under severe shading conditions.
The technology relies on two primary design shifts to mitigate fire risks. First, the cells utilize a bypass diode-like function that redistributes current flow when a portion of a panel is shaded, preventing the localized electrical stress that typically triggers overheating. Second, AIKO replaced standard silver-paste metallization with a pure copper grid. This structural change increases the mechanical toughness of the cells, significantly reducing the formation of micro-cracks that often serve as precursors to dangerous hot spots.
