Portal Launches Lightweight Nomis One Inflatable Rooftop Tent

Dragging a 150-pound tent onto a vehicle roof is a grueling task that often kills the joy of a weekend getaway. Los Angeles-based gear brand Portal aims to change that dynamic with the Nomis One, an inflatable rooftop tent that slashes the weight of traditional setups to just 45.8 pounds.

The Nomis One replaces conventional heavy metal frames with an air-beam structure, a design shift that took two years of prototyping to refine. Once the base is mounted, the tent body inflates in two minutes, with a full mattress-and-tent setup ready for use in under nine minutes. When deflated, the unit shrinks to a compact 32.3 by 17.7 by 15.7 inches, allowing it to fit inside the cargo area of most SUVs rather than permanently occupying roof rack space.

Designed for versatility, the system functions as a rooftop unit, a truck bed tent, or a standalone ground shelter. It is constructed from 300D Oxford fabric with a 5,000 mm waterproof rating, providing enough durability for three-season camping. The platform measures 92.5 by 59 inches, supporting up to 550 pounds. Portal has moved the product to Kickstarter to gauge consumer demand, offering early backers a 38% discount compared to the eventual retail price.
