Crystal Dynamics unveils dual Tomb Raider release schedule

Two new Tomb Raider titles are heading to market within the next three years, as Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios capitalize on the franchise's legacy. The studio confirmed a back-to-back release strategy, signaling a significant expansion for the long-running series during a surprise reveal at The Game Awards.

Crystal Dynamics unveils dual Tomb Raider release schedule

The rollout begins in 2026 with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, an Unreal Engine 5 remake of the 1996 original. Much like the 2007 Tomb Raider Anniversary, this project seeks to modernize the foundational PlayStation experience with current-generation graphical fidelity. Following the remake, the developers will pivot to an entirely original narrative in 2027 with Tomb Raider: Catalyst.

Catalyst represents a departure from recent iterations, featuring a protagonist who appears to honor the character's early design concepts as Laura Cruz. While official details remain scarce, the visual direction suggests a return to the series' roots, potentially reinterpreting Lara Croft’s heritage through a new lens. For a franchise that has spent years navigating reboots and remakes, this double-header strategy marks the most aggressive release cadence in recent memory.
