aiEDU Targets Rural and Indigenous Districts for 2026 AI Grants

The initiative targets school districts and educational nonprofits in Washington, Nebraska, Texas, Illinois, Montana, and Wyoming. Unlike previous iterations, this funding cycle is exclusively dedicated to educator capacity building. By equipping teachers, coaches, and administrators with AI literacy and integration tools, aiEDU intends to create a sustainable impact that persists long after the 12-month grant period concludes.

"AI Readiness will be built locally before it's ever built nationally," said Alex Kotran, CEO and co-founder of aiEDU. The organization’s strategy shifted toward direct teacher support after data from last year's cohort revealed that professional development yields the most durable improvements in classroom outcomes. Grantees range from the Montana Digital Academy, which is focusing on one-room schoolhouses, to the National Center for Learning Disabilities in Wyoming, which is developing resources to evaluate AI-generated IEP content.

Selected organizations will receive $25,000 to $50,000 to implement their projects. Beyond the financial infusion, these partners gain access to aiEDU’s strategic advising, train-the-trainer programming, and a collaborative cohort network. This structure is intended to foster peer learning as these districts navigate the complexities of AI adoption in diverse rural and Indigenous settings.
