The report, Building the AI-Native Enterprise, introduces an index to benchmark how firms translate AI spending into actual business value. While 54% of respondents cite faster decision-making and 51% report cost reductions, the data reveals a disconnect in long-term strategy. Only 36% of organizations currently measure AI success through revenue growth, indicating that many businesses are prioritizing operational efficiency over structural transformation.
The Divide Between AI Experimentation and Enterprise Transformation
While 58% of companies have successfully integrated AI across their business operations, a significant 40% remain stalled, merely layering new tools onto aging legacy infrastructure. A study of 417 U.S. leaders by West Monroe suggests that true competitive advantage requires a fundamental redesign of organizational workflows rather than simple automation.

Bret Greenstein, Chief AI Officer at West Monroe, argues that the most successful firms are those moving beyond basic tool deployment. By redesigning work to leverage AI's inherent speed and data access, these companies create a compressed cycle of improvement. This shift often involves abandoning traditional hierarchies in favor of cross-functional, AI-enabled teams, a strategy currently adopted by 42% of the surveyed organizations. As regulatory complexity and infrastructure constraints mount, the gap between those simply experimenting with AI and those fully embedding it into their operating layer continues to widen.
