After months of speculation surrounding the future of the entertainment giant, Disney has confirmed that theme parks head Josh D’Amaro will ascend to the chief executive role on March 18, 2026. The appointment marks the end of a long-running succession search following Bob Iger’s second stint at the helm.
As he prepares to take the reins, D’Amaro faces the task of guiding the company through the launch of its standalone ESPN streaming service and integrating generative AI tools developed through a deal with OpenAI. These tools are expected to allow users to animate over 250 Disney characters within the Disney Plus ecosystem. Alongside this leadership transition, Dana Walden will step into the roles of president and chief creative officer, rounding out the new executive team.
