The new facility will be located at the Bahía Blanca Industrial Complex, occupying an 80-hectare site that offers proximity to Pampa Energia’s existing power infrastructure. The plant is set to feature a high-capacity ammonia unit alongside two parallel ultra-low energy urea trains, yielding a total annual output of 2.1 million tons of granular urea. Tecnimont will handle the engineering, procurement, commissioning, and start-up phases, while the group's subsidiary Nextchem provides proprietary technologies, including process design packages and equipment. The project also incorporates syngas production capabilities and utilizes ammonia technology licensed by KBR. Construction will be carried out in collaboration with the Argentine firm SACDE S.A. Beyond industrial output, the complex is projected to serve as a significant economic driver for the region, creating over 3,500 direct jobs during the peak of construction and bolstering the domestic fertilizer supply chain. Alessandro Bernini, CEO of Maire, noted that the contract represents the firm's first large-scale entry into the Argentine market, allowing the company to leverage its integrated technology and project execution capabilities to monetize natural gas reserves.
Maire Secures €1.3 Billion Fertilizer Plant Contract in Argentina
With a total value of €1.3 billion, Maire’s subsidiary Tecnimont has landed a major contract to build a large-scale fertilizer complex in Argentina’s Buenos Aires Province. The project, commissioned by Fértil Pampa S.A.U., aims to establish the largest urea production facility in Latin America within 41 months.
