Delphinus Engineering Secures Bluestone Investment for Naval Expansion

After three decades of operations, Newtown Square-based Delphinus Engineering has partnered with private equity firm Bluestone Investment Partners to scale its maritime maintenance and modernization services. The deal coincides with a leadership transition, as founder Ranjit Das retires and long-time executive Roby Lentz steps into the role of chief executive officer.

The capital injection from Bluestone, which specializes in the defense and government sectors, aims to accelerate Delphinus's efforts to modernize the U.S. naval industrial base. The company plans to leverage these resources to expand its high-skill technical workforce, upgrade internal capabilities, and pursue strategic acquisitions within the maritime defense market. This growth strategy arrives as the U.S. Navy faces increasing pressure to improve fleet readiness and sustainment capacity.

Roby Lentz, who previously served as senior vice president and chief operating officer, will now lead the firm’s next phase of development. Having been with the company since its early stages, Lentz intends to maintain the firm’s focus on complex engineering challenges while scaling its footprint. Managing partner John Allen noted that Bluestone views the partnership as a way to bolster a critical link in national security, combining Delphinus’s existing technical expertise with a more disciplined approach to market expansion. Piper Sandler & Co. acted as the sole sell-side financial advisor for the transaction.
