Light pivots to nostalgia with its new minimalist flip phone
“I hate smartphones. I don’t want to be seen using a smartphone,” cofounder Kaiwei Tang kept hearing from his users. Despite the success of the screen-heavy Light Phone III, the company realized its audience did not want a device that resembled a slab, leading to the creation of their first dedicated flip phone.
Under the hood, the phone runs on a MediaTek MT8873 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It includes functional basics like a USB-C charging port, a headphone jack, and a single rear camera. Rather than the uniform black finish of its predecessor, the flip model will be available in multiple colors. A small notification light on the exterior cover provides subtle alerts, keeping users connected without the constant pull of an app-saturated screen. The device is scheduled to ship to customers early next year.
