Pratt & Whitney Advances Valox 1500 Engine Design for Autonomous Flight
At the Farnborough International Airshow, RTX subsidiary Pratt & Whitney confirmed its Valox 1500 engine has cleared a critical design milestone. Using digital engineering to bypass traditional development hurdles, the company aims to provide a scalable, cost-effective propulsion solution tailored specifically for the next generation of semi-autonomous collaborative combat platforms.
Jill Albertelli, president of Pratt & Whitney’s Military Engines business, credited the team's agility for meeting the milestone, noting that the focus remains on delivering capabilities to the warfighter faster than previously possible. As the aerospace industry pivots toward collaborative combat systems, the Valox 1500 represents a strategic shift for the Arlington-based manufacturer, moving from long-lifecycle commercial engines toward specialized, mission-optimized propulsion for emerging operational requirements.
