Adobe pivots its experimental camera app toward generative AI

The new suite includes four distinct categories: Styles, Object Editing, Photo Guidance, and Custom Edit. These tools offer users the ability to apply artistic filters, remove unwanted background distractions, and fill empty spaces using generative techniques similar to Google’s Magic Eraser. Adobe fellow Marc Levoy notes that the system is designed for iterative editing, allowing users to regenerate results if the initial output falls short.

Adobe is currently testing this feature with a select group of users, offering free access without requiring a sign-on. The company views this rollout as a research project to understand user behavior regarding AI-powered mobile editing. While the current experiment is free, Adobe suggests that a paid tier may follow if the feature gains significant traction. Users who prefer the original experience retain the ability to opt out of the generative tools via a dedicated toggle.
