Perez reportedly cleared more than $100,000 across a dozen high-profile events, including the State of the Union address and remarks at the World Economic Forum. The scheme involved betting on 'mentions' markets, where participants gamble on the vocabulary or specific topics an individual will address during a public appearance.
Trump’s Teleprompter Operator Accused of Betting on Speech Content
Gabriel Perez, who managed Donald Trump’s teleprompters since 2016, allegedly exploited his proximity to the former president to profit from prediction markets. Federal investigators suspect Perez used inside knowledge of speech content to place successful wagers on Kalshi, a platform where users bet on specific phrases and event outcomes.

Kalshi’s internal surveillance team identified the suspicious patterns and referred the findings to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Robert DeNault, the platform’s head of enforcement, confirmed the company provided evidence to regulators and took action against the account holder. While the CFTC has declined to comment on the status of an investigation, reports indicate that negotiations for a settlement are underway. This potential resolution would require Perez to forfeit his winnings and agree to a permanent ban from similar trading activities in the future.
