The weekend begins at Rockwell Park with a series of discussions featuring city leaders and creators, followed by an interactive celebration showcasing local culinary and artistic talent. On Saturday, organizers will pivot toward environmental legacy as the Pittsburgh Tomorrow Leadership Corps guides guests in planting 250 trees, marking a tangible contribution to the city’s landscape for America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
Pittsburgh Tomorrow Lures Ex-Pats Back for September Homecoming
To combat a persistent population decline that has seen 300,000 residents depart since the 1980s, the nonprofit Pittsburgh Tomorrow is launching an inaugural homecoming weekend from September 18-20. The event aims to reconnect former residents with the city’s evolving cultural and economic landscape through targeted engagement.

Beyond organized events, the weekend offers a "Culture Crawl" for the first 250 registrants, providing complimentary access to twelve major institutions including the Carnegie International, Fallingwater, and the Warhol museum. This initiative overlaps with the StartUP PGH innovation conference, intentionally bridging the gap between visiting talent and the region’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem. Founder Doug Heuck emphasized that the event moves past years of discussion to actively leverage the city's strengths for business development and long-term residency. By positioning Pittsburgh as a destination for both professional success and community connection, organizers hope to reverse a demographic trend that currently places the region at the top of national natural population decline metrics.
