The graduation ceremony, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., marks four decades of the program, which has provided performance training and mentorship to more than 2,500 youth. Over 60 participants, aged 9 to 16, will complete the course this year. In keeping with the club’s tradition, each graduate receives professional compensation equivalent to working comedians, along with branded apparel.
Haddish, who now mentors students through her She Ready Foundation, spent time last week working with this year’s cohort. Her involvement extends beyond the stage; her foundation provides suitcases to foster youth to replace the plastic garbage bags typically used for moving belongings, a move intended to bolster the self-esteem of those facing similar challenges to her own upbringing. The camp’s legacy includes mentorship from industry legends such as Richard Pryor, George Carlin, and Robin Williams.
