The Connecticut-based General Woodcraft brings a deep inventory of premium, domestically sourced materials to Cambium’s growing platform. The firm is known for its ignition-resistant thermally modified wood, Mataverde SaferWood, and the Climate Shield rainscreen system—products increasingly vital in wildfire-prone regions like California. By integrating these offerings, Cambium secures a stronger foothold on both coasts, expanding its reach among major dealers and corporate partners such as US LBM and SRS Distribution.
Cambium Acquires General Woodcraft to Scale Sustainable Timber Network
Cambium, the digital platform aiming to modernize timber procurement, has acquired the 77-year-old specialty distributor General Woodcraft. This move marks the company’s fifth acquisition in five years, signaling a strategic effort to bridge legacy industry expertise with a unified, technology-driven national supply chain for high-performance building materials.

For Cambium CEO Ben Christensen, the acquisition is about digitizing a sector historically defined by fragmented relationships. While General Woodcraft has spent decades building trust with architects and builders, the partnership is designed to amplify that reputation through better logistical support and pricing transparency. Steven Crook, President of General Woodcraft, noted that the transition provides his existing client base with advanced digital purchasing tools while maintaining the technical product knowledge that has defined the brand since 1949.
