The list, released ahead of the National Adoption Week starting July 20, highlights suburban and mid-sized communities where residents prioritize cat adoptions and investment in pet enrichment products.
PetSmart Charities of Canada calculates these rankings by weighing adoption numbers equally against sales data for treats, toys, and grooming supplies. Aimee Gilbreath, president of the charity, emphasized that the initiative serves to highlight the essential role cats play in Canadian households. The timing coincides with the peak of kitten season, a period when shelters typically face an influx of animals in need of permanent homes. To encourage participation, the retailer is offering VIPP status and significant supply discounts to those who adopt during the upcoming national event.
