The Blainville-based pharmaceutical firm, part of the Duchesnay Pharmaceutical Group, will now manage the distribution of mecasermin, a treatment specifically designed for patients aged 2 to 18. Severe primary IGF-1 deficiency is an ultra-rare endocrine disorder that prevents the body from producing the hormone necessary for normal childhood development. Without intervention, patients face stunted growth and significant physical and emotional hurdles.
Carla Létourneau, Director of Marketing Strategy at Médunik Canada, noted that the move aligns with the company's focus on rare conditions and ensures families maintain consistent access to the drug. As part of the transition, the existing patient support infrastructure will remain under Médunik’s oversight to prevent any service gaps for caregivers and patients.
