Imel arrives with a long history of tech journalism, tracing his interest back to the debut of the original iPhone at MacWorld in 2007. His career includes a five-year tenure leading reviews at Android Authority and a significant stint writing for Marques Brownlee’s Studio Channel. He has already contributed to The Verge through various freelance assignments, ranging from camera deep dives to appearances on the Vergecast.

Beyond hardware benchmarks, Imel focuses on the intersection of consumer technology and daily life, with specific interests in computational photography, linguistics, and digital protocols. To mark the start of his tenure, he is hosting a subscriber-only AMA session today at 11AM PT to discuss his upcoming coverage and his broader philosophy on testing how technology actually functions in the real world.
