NASA Veteran Kate Rubins Joins FibroBiologics Board
After a 16-year career as a NASA astronaut and a pioneering tenure in space-based genomics, Kathleen Rubins is pivoting to clinical-stage biotechnology. The Houston-based firm FibroBiologics announced today that the microbiologist will transition from their Scientific Advisory Board to a permanent seat on the company’s board of directors.

Her appointment follows her 2025 retirement from the space agency and her subsequent election to the National Academy of Medicine. Rubins currently serves as the Founding Director of the Trivedi Institute for Space and Global Biomedicine at the University of Pittsburgh. She joins a company that holds over 270 patents centered on tissue regeneration and cell therapy, signaling a strategic focus on integrating high-level genomic research into their clinical development cycle.
