iRobot Breaks Tradition With Its First Manual Floor Cleaner

For the first time in its history, iRobot is stepping away from automation with the launch of the $399 Roomba Electro Plus. While the company built its reputation on autonomous navigation, this new 5-in-1 device requires manual operation, signaling a strategic shift to compete with the growing market of wet-dry cleaners.

The Electro Plus is engineered exclusively for hard floors, incorporating vacuuming, mopping, and disinfection into a single cordless unit. Its primary competitive edge lies in an electrolysis system that converts standard tap water into a commercial-grade disinfectant, a feature marketed as safe for households with children and pets. The device includes a motorized drive to assist movement and a self-cleaning dock that washes and dries the roller with hot air, though users must still manage the water tanks manually.

Alongside this manual entry, iRobot refreshed its core lineup with five new robot vacuums. These models replace the series released in 2025, offering smaller physical footprints, increased suction power, and lower price points. By targeting both the automated and manual cleaning segments, iRobot aims to regain ground against rivals like Dreame and Roborock who have successfully popularized high-end manual wet-dry floor care tools.
