The SmartSpectra 1.0 SDK functions on iOS and Android devices, transforming standard smartphone cameras into medical-grade diagnostic tools. By eliminating the need for physical hardware or specialized sensors, the platform aims to lower the barrier for remote patient monitoring. Validation data from clinical trials at Baylor College of Medicine, conducted with 111 participants across diverse demographics, demonstrated an accuracy of 1.32 BPM for heart rate and 1.75 BrPM for breathing rate.
Presage Technologies Releases FDA-Cleared Contactless Monitoring for Free
Washington-based Presage Technologies has secured FDA 510(k) clearance for its SmartSpectra Vital Signs Monitor, enabling mobile devices to track heart and breathing rates without wearable sensors. In an effort to bridge healthcare accessibility gaps, the company is offering these clinical-grade metrics at no cost to medical and educational institutions.

Founder and CEO Mark Oliver noted that while over 90% of Americans own smartphones, millions remain underserved due to high costs and limited access to healthcare infrastructure. Beyond the free metrics, Presage Technologies provides a broader SDK for developers across Mac, Linux, Windows, iOS, and Android. This expanded platform supports additional biometrics, including heart rate variability and uncalibrated arterial pressure waveforms. To facilitate immediate adoption, the company has also released Coherence by Presage Tech, a consumer-facing application available on the Apple App Store and Google Play, allowing organizations to integrate contactless vital monitoring directly into their own health-focused products.
