Solos AirGo A6 cuts weight to challenge Meta’s smart glasses

At just 19 grams, the new Solos AirGo A6 smart glasses arrive as a featherweight alternative to the bulky, camera-equipped hardware currently dominating the market. By stripping away optical sensors and slimming down the temple arms, the company aims to prioritize comfort and voice-driven AI over visual capture.

The A6 represents a significant architectural shift from its predecessor, the 40-gram AirGo A5. By relocating batteries and speakers into thinner frames, Solos has achieved a weight profile nearly three times lighter than the latest Meta glasses, which range between 54 and 60 grams. While final pricing remains unannounced, the company confirmed that the frames will offer full prescription lens compatibility and arrive in various aesthetics, including transparent designs that expose the internal electronics.

Functionality centers on hands-free AI interaction. Users can query the integrated assistant, receive real-time translations, and manage calendar events via voice commands. The open-ear speaker placement allows for music playback and phone calls without isolating the wearer from ambient sound. Additionally, Solos is addressing privacy concerns for its older AirGo V2 line, introducing a $79 bundle that includes a physical camera-blocking shield and clip-on UV-protective sunglasses, offering a modular way to toggle between smart and analog use.
