Kroger Appoints McDonald’s Executive Emilee De Martino as HR Chief

Emilee De Martino will take over as Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer at The Kroger Co., stepping into the role vacated by the retiring Tim Massa. De Martino arrives from McDonald’s Corporation, bringing a background in managing large-scale human capital strategies across international markets to the retail giant.

De Martino’s transition follows an eight-year tenure at McDonald's, where she oversaw people strategy for 19 countries and a workforce exceeding 750,000 employees. Her work focused on embedding brand values and driving restaurant crew retention. Kroger CEO Greg Foran cited her track record in handling complex organizational transformations as the primary driver for her appointment, noting that her experience with global workforces positions her to lead the company’s internal cultural evolution.

Before her time at McDonald's, De Martino held leadership positions at CNA Financial Corporation, focusing on organizational redesign and modernization. Her early career includes consulting roles at Accenture and Mercer, where she specialized in human capital and change management. De Martino holds an MBA from Kansas State University and will begin her tenure at Kroger by touring the company’s domestic retail, distribution, and manufacturing operations to engage directly with the workforce.
