To earn an international TOBY, buildings must navigate rigorous local and regional competitions before undergoing on-site inspections by industry experts. Judges evaluate each entry on a comprehensive set of criteria, including energy management, tenant relations, accessibility, and emergency preparedness. The winners span a wide spectrum of the built environment, from historic landmarks to modern life science facilities.
Key winners include the Chicago Board of Trade Building, recognized in the Historical Building category, and the Bank of America Tower in Houston, which took the prize for the 500,000 to 1 Million Square Feet bracket. Kilroy Realty Corporation saw two of its properties, 350 Mission Street in San Francisco and AERO Long Beach, receive top honors. Other notable recipients include BioMed Realty’s Gateway of Pacific in the Life Science category and the Scarborough Town Centre in Ontario, which led the large-scale retail category.
