Blood Cancer United Expands Board with Four Industry Leaders

Blood Cancer United, formerly known as The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, has appointed four new members to its Board of Directors to bolster its mission to cure blood cancer. The incoming cohort brings specialized expertise in artificial intelligence, pharmaceutical leadership, healthcare delivery, and commercial real estate to the nonprofit’s governance.

The new appointees include Charles Arnold, a retired KPMG partner and AI strategy expert; Paul Fonteyne, a veteran pharmaceutical executive and former CEO of Boehringer-Ingelheim USA; Dr. A. Marc Harrison, a physician executive and former CEO of Intermountain Healthcare; and Jeff Shaw, a commercial real estate leader who previously chaired the organization's National Philanthropy Committee. These individuals replace outgoing members Lynne O'Brien, Marla Persky, Richard Rendina, Robert Rosen, and Jeff Sachs, whose terms concluded on June 30.

E. Anders Kolb, M.D., the organization's President and CEO, stated that the new directors will help accelerate research initiatives and broaden access to patient care. The board continues its work under the leadership of Chair Freda Wang. Simultaneously, the organization expanded its National Philanthropy Committee by adding Jamal K. Muashsher, President and CEO of Valvoline Global Operations. Muashsher, who previously facilitated a multi-year partnership between Valvoline and the nonprofit to support pediatric blood cancer initiatives, will focus on advancing revenue opportunities to sustain the organization's global advocacy and research efforts.
