Nagase America Opens Downtown Detroit Mobility Hub

The event brought together local city officials and Japanese consular representatives to celebrate the company’s strategic expansion into Detroit’s central automotive corridor.

The office, which began operations on May 4, 2026, functions as the primary hub for the company's Mobility Solutions division. Nagase America currently stands as the only Japanese firm with a dedicated presence in downtown Detroit, a move intended to anchor the company closer to the engineers and partners driving the next generation of vehicle development. Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield noted that the arrival of a firm with nearly two centuries of history highlights the city's ongoing appeal as a global center for industrial innovation.

With over 25 years of automotive experience in Michigan, Nagase America serves as a vital link for global OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers. Its work spans vehicle interiors, electrification, and materials science, supporting the entire development cycle from initial concept to final commercialization. Kevin Johnson, president and CEO of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, stated that the company’s decision to move downtown reflects the city’s rising prominence among international automotive players.
