Google turns research notes into vertical AI clips

Google is transforming how users interact with research by introducing 60-second vertical AI videos within its NotebookLM platform. Designed to mimic the pacing of social media clips, the tool pulls data from uploaded documents to create narrations paired with AI-generated visuals, currently available to AI Ultra and Pro subscribers.

The feature expands the existing capabilities of NotebookLM, which already supports the creation of AI-generated podcasts and cinematic explainers. To access the tool, users navigate to the Studio column within a notebook, select the video option, and define the specific topic they wish to visualize. Once the generation button is triggered, the software synthesizes the source material into a concise, vertical format.

Demonstrating the technology, Google showcased a clip detailing the historical Emu War in Australia, utilizing stylized paper-cut graphics to illustrate the narrative. While the rollout is currently limited to English-language content for paid subscribers, the company plans to extend access to free-tier users in the near future.
