Since stepping into the chief executive role in 2020 after four years as president, Kirby has overseen the aggressive United Next growth strategy. His tenure has focused on transforming the customer experience and cementing Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport as a central pillar of global commerce. Dorri McWhorter, president and CEO of the Executives' Club, credited Kirby with strengthening global connectivity during a period defined by shifting consumer expectations and industry-wide disruption.
Scott Kirby Named Executives' Club 2026 International Executive of the Year
The Executives' Club of Chicago has selected United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby as its 2026 International Executive of the Year. The award, which recognizes leaders who shape global industries and economies, will be presented during a ceremony at the Radisson Blu on November 10, 2026, marking a century of United's operations.

Kirby joins a notable list of previous recipients, including Satya Nadella, Jamie Dimon, and Bill Gates. During the November event, the executive is scheduled to participate in a fireside conversation addressing the forces currently shaping global mobility and the future of international business infrastructure. For Kirby, the recognition carries personal weight given United's deep-rooted history in Chicago. He maintains that continued investment in the city remains a primary component of the airline’s long-term strategy for growth.
